While I’ve never seen the original, I am a big Lady Gaga fan so I knew I needed to see this one in theaters. I also was fully prepared to cry and boy did I. Bring tissues if you don’t want to have to wipe your tears with used popcorn napkins like I did….guess I wasn’t as prepared as I thought!
The plot follows a young musician (Lady Gaga) destined for stardom. A full-blown alcoholic rock star (Bradley Cooper) discovers her and their journey becomes one of love, addiction, success and failure. The soundtrack to the movie is incredible. Bradley Cooper actually does all of his own vocals and Lady Gaga belts out some amazing songs. Cooper logged hours of voice lessons to be able to sing and channeled the role of Jackson Maine from his own story of pain and addiction. It was quite apparent that Lady Gaga’s own life story was reflected in Ally and her journey. All of these things combined made this movie one of my favorites in a long time. You can bet I will be purchasing the soundtrack and belting out a few notes on my daily commute. I give it 4.5/5 stars. A must-see!
