Hi, I’m Roxi, a female English Bulldog and the 7th member of the Pittenger family! I joined Trey, Shari, and their kids during the COVID shutdown in April 2020. They’d had an English Bulldog before, so they knew exactly what they were getting into when they brought me home—plus, they had plenty of time to help potty train me.
The kids were the ones who begged to get me and promised to help with my care, but let’s be honest—Mom and Dad handle most of the work. As long as I get my food and have a comfy bed to nap on, I’m perfectly content.
I’ve heard people say I have some traits in common with middle-aged men:
- My wrinkles give me a wise, endearing look.
- I’m fiercely protective of my family.
- I can be strong-willed (okay, stubborn).
- I have a lot of expressive facial features.
- I need regular maintenance—especially on my wrinkles—to stay healthy.
- I’m very food-motivated and focused on when my next meal is coming.
- I snore, and sometimes someone must roll me over to make it stop.
But let’s be real—I’m much cuter than most middle-aged men!
I love being outside, but I handle the cold much better than the heat. In the summer, I enjoy lounging on the porch and soaking up the sun—at least until my family insists I come inside. They keep mentioning something about a “frog in boiling water,” but I’m no frog, so I don’t get it.
When my family comes home, even after just 10 minutes, I get so excited to see them. They say they love how I greet them with the same enthusiasm every time. I never have bad days—seeing my family makes me happy no matter what.
I can be a little stubborn, especially when I’m not in the mood to go for a walk or head outside before they leave. I’ll stare at them and try to let them know how I feel, but in the end, I usually cooperate. My favorite moments are when we’re all in the living room together. That’s when I’m happiest, and my family says it’s their favorite time too.
Bulldogs might not live as long as some other dogs, and while that’s a little sad, I know I can’t change it. What I can do is make the most of every moment I have. For me, that means being around my family as much as I can no matter what they are doing. 💕
