Questions & Answers with Zabrina Roussan
Where are you originally from?
From DeWitt, NE to SoCal and back to the heart of Nebraska, my story is a mix of small-town roots, military life, and a passion for business. It’s been quite a ride, and I’m excited to share the milestones that led me here.
I am originally from DeWitt, Nebraska. After high school, I moved to Southern California with my now-husband, Josh, while he served in the Marine Corps. We eventually made our way back home to Nebraska in 2010, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Doane University Lincoln.
Tell us about your family:
Josh and I are going on 18 years of marriage, and together we have two children who definitely keep us on our toes! Our son is heavily involved in select baseball and football, while our daughter stays busy with cheer, volleyball, and Girl Scouts.
To round out our active household, we have our four-legged friend, Arlo. He’s a spunky Boxer-Bulldog mix who is always up for a game of fetch, though he’s surprisingly not a huge fan of walks.
What do you like to do in your free time?
When I’m not working, I am very active in our kids’ lives. I currently serve as the Chairperson for their elementary school Book Fair, coach my daughter’s volleyball team, serve as a Cheer Rep mom and Co-Chair for her Girl Scout troop.
If the weather is nice, you can usually find me outside playing catch or shooting hoops with our son. On our rare “off nights,” Josh and I love visiting a local brewery to unwind. Otherwise, if I have a quiet moment to myself, I’ll almost always be found with a good book in my hand.
What is your favorite movie or TV show?
To be honest, I love almost all movies, but my favorites go in phases. Right now, I’m on a Jason Statham kick and will watch anything he’s in. I really enjoy movies that are action-packed but still have a sense of humor and always love a good love story.
When it comes to TV, I’m a fan of the classics. You can usually find me re-watching episodes of Friends or The Big Bang Theory. They’re my favorites for a good laugh and some easygoing downtime.
What has been your favorite and/or most memorable vacation?
That’s a tough one! If I had to choose, it would be a tie between Southern California and Hawaii.
When we visited Southern California, we hit nearly all the different theme parks, which was a blast. However, looking back, the most memorable part wasn’t the big attractions—it was the simplicity of watching the kids find seashells on the beach.
As for Hawaii, that place is just breathtaking. There’s a certain magic to the scenery there that stays with you long after you leave.
How did you become interested in the investment/financial planning profession?
An opportunity presented itself at a previous employer to work in their Retirement Planning department. This is where I found myself naturally gravitating toward the importance of helping people save for retirement. After nearly 10 years focused on the complexities of 401(k) plans, I realized I wanted to help people more and have a holistic approach to financial planning. I truly enjoy building new relationships and partnering with clients to create a financial future they can feel excited and confident about.
If you could do anything else for a living what would it be?
I’ve always had a deep-seated curiosity about the world, and I would love to travel the world with my family to immerse ourselves in different cultures, better understand the human experience, and raise my children with a truly expansive perspective.
