About

Our Story

Our founders, Pitt and Dan, began working together at Dean Witter in 1985.  As time went on, Dean Witter pressured their brokers to sell higher fee products to their clients. A clear conflict of interest, this frustrated Pitt and Dan.

“Sitting on the same side of the table as my clients was something I tried to do throughout my career as a broker, but my clients were still treated as customers. I was paid for transactions rather than building relationships. My clients were coming up short, and so was I.”

Jim Pittenger

“Creating an environment where there is no pressure to sell a product and only doing what you think is best for the client appealed to me.”

Dan Anderson

Pitt left Dean Witter in June 1995 and a year later Dan joined him. Pittenger & Anderson was born. As we approach 25 years in business, our firm continues to grow and evolve. In 2012, we unveiled our succession plan by naming three new principals (Diane, Jon, and Trey). Since then, we’ve added two more owners (Blake and Shane), bringing our partner total to seven. This evolution will allow us to continue serving our clients for decades to come.

“From day one, we have been fully transparent and put our clients’ interests first. This fiduciary approach to each and every relationship has been a huge driver of our clients’ success, and thus our success. We never have to look back and can always greet our clients with a firm handshake and unblinking eyes.”

One of my passions is flying; there are always new places to see and odd experiences to pursue. Most of my friends are normal. I love golf, once played a lot of tennis, and consider myself married to a bicycle, but watching football and basketball is becoming more and more appealing. Financial problem-solving and sales presentations have always been a favorite. Being proud of P&A is a pretty easy duty. Clients are our best friends, our team is excellent, the partners don’t argue (much), so why would you leave? I’m staying put.

My innate curiosity and thirst for knowledge has made me a frequent champion of our Friday afternoon office trivia contest (humble brag). This curiosity carries over to my work with P&A clients – helping to develop and execute an investment plan to meet their specific goals and objectives.

When I’m not at the office, you can generally find me pondering my next home improvement project, hacking my way around the golf course, or traveling with my wife, Emmy, and our three kids – Violet, Oliver and Hazel. I also serve on the boards of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Lincoln chapter, the Lincoln Children’s Zoo, and am on the Dean’s Young Alumni Advisory Board at the UNL College of Business. While I’m a born-and-raised Husker, I’m also a proud graduate of the Texas MBA program.

Growing up on a farm in the 1980s introduced me to the markets. I’ll never forget listening to the farm report on the radio, waiting to hear the price of corn, soybeans, and cattle. This led me to study finance in college and to go into the financial services industry. After several other stops, I found my home at P&A in 2016. My role here includes developing financial plans, working with clients, trading, and research.
