About
Our Story
Our founders, Jim Pittenger and Dan Anderson, began working together at Dean Witter in 1985. In the early 1990s, Dean Witter began to pressure their brokers to sell higher fee products to their clients. A clear conflict of interest, this frustrated Pitt and Dan.
“Sitting on the same side of the table as my clients was something I tried to do throughout my career as a broker, but my clients were still treated as customers. I was paid for transactions rather than building relationships. My clients were coming up short, and so was I.”
Jim Pittenger
“Creating an environment where there is no pressure to sell a product and only doing what you think is best for the client appealed to me.”
Dan Anderson
Pitt left Dean Witter in June 1995 and a year later Dan joined him. Pittenger & Anderson became one of the first fee-only investment advisors in Nebraska, embracing the fiduciary standard of care and shunning the transactional business model.
Approaching 30 years in business, P&A continues to grow and evolve. In 2012, we unveiled our succession plan by naming three new principals (Diane Klein, Jon Sevenker, and Trey Pittenger). Since then, we’ve added three more owners (Blake Anderson, Shane Riley, and Dan Frost), bringing our partner total to eight. This evolution will allow us to continue serving our clients for decades to come.
“From day one, we have been fully transparent and put our clients’ interests first. This fiduciary approach to each and every relationship has been a huge driver of our clients’ success, and thus our success. We never have to look back and can always greet our clients with a firm handshake and unblinking eyes.”

Flying is a passion and the fabric of my being. There are always new places to see and odd experiences to pursue. Most of my friends claim to be normal but have well cultivated eccentricities. I love golf, once played a lot of tennis, and at one time was married to my bicycle, would like to get that way again. Watching football and basketball was also once a passion and hopefully the Huskers will renew that.
Financial problem-solving and sales presentations have always been a sought-after challenge, I love to be involved and help others. Being proud of P&A is a pretty easy duty. Clients are our best friends, our team is excellent, the partners don’t argue (much), so why would you leave? I’m staying put.

The ideal workday for me starts with a good cup (or two) of coffee in the quiet of the early morning. My best days at the office are spent collaborating with the awesome team at P&A and interacting with our clients.

When I’m not at the office, you can find me shuttling our kids off to an activity or coaching their sports teams. I love pondering and planning my next home improvement project, hacking my way around the golf course, or traveling with my wife, Emmy, and our three kids – Violet, Oliver and Hazel. As a born and raised Lincolnite, I am fortunate to have opportunity to be involved in the community – serving on the boards of the Lincoln Children’s Zoo and the Lincoln YMCA, as well as a Trustee of the Lincoln Community Health Endowment. While I’m a lifelong Husker fan and graduate of the University of Nebraska, I’m also a proud graduate of the Texas MBA program.

Spending time with my family is the best investment I can think of. My wife and I have been married for over 20 years and we have two daughters, one in high school and the other in middle school.

My introduction to investments came during the summer between my freshman and sophomore years at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln, when I had the opportunity to work as an intern in the investment division at a local bank. It was there that I first learned what a Bloomberg machine is and became aware of the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation. From that point on I knew exactly what I wanted to do professionally.
While I enjoy managing investment portfolios and crunching numbers in an Excel spreadsheet, I have to say the most satisfying part of my job is working with clients and bringing them peace of mind when it comes to their financial lives.
