We don’t chase trends.
We work to understand them.

Markets are unpredictable. Our approach isn’t. Since 1995, we’ve managed money with patience, discipline, and a long-term perspective, and we invest our own money right alongside yours.

Our investment philosophy.

At P&A, we believe successful investing requires patience, discipline, and a long-term perspective. We don’t chase trends or try to time the market. We focus on what works.

Simple, transparent portfolios.

We use liquid, easy-to-understand investments that can be efficiently bought and sold.

Focus on what we can control.

Markets are unpredictable, but certain factors remain within our control: expenses, processes, and portfolio construction.

Embrace volatility.

Short-term volatility is the price investors must pay to enjoy the long-term compounding benefits of the stock market.

Stay fully invested and diversified.

We believe consistently participating in the market is more effective than attempting to time it.

Aligned with your best interests.

As a fee-only fiduciary, our advice is not influenced by commissions, proprietary products, or sales incentives.

Your plan connects each of these areas to the others, so a decision in one part of your financial life doesn’t create an unintended consequence in another.

We eat our own cooking.

At P&A, we invest our personal and retirement money using the same overall philosophy we employ for our clients. When markets experience success, we enjoy the ride right alongside you. And when markets go through one of their inevitable setbacks, we feel the pain, too.

What you can expect as a client.

A team, not a silo.

When you hire P&A, you hire our entire team. You’ll have two main points of contact, a Lead Advisor and a Service Advisor, and over time other team members will assist you based on your needs and their expertise.

Regular, proactive communication.

We proactively review your accounts throughout the year and reach out regularly to keep you informed. Additional touchpoints happen around planning topics, tax law changes, and market developments.

Financial planning, included.

Our investment management clients gain our financial planning services on a complimentary basis. Learn more about financial planning

This ranking was issued by CNBC in October 2025 and covers the period October 2025 to October 2026. Pittenger & Anderson did not pay to obtain this rating; however, we have licensed the CNBC FA 100 logo for use in our own advertising materials.

Questions clients often ask about investment management.

How do you determine the right investment strategy for me?

Your strategy begins with understanding your goals, time horizon, risk tolerance, and overall financial picture. We integrate this with your broader financial plan, ensuring your portfolio supports your life goals. As your circumstances evolve, we revisit and adjust accordingly.

What types of investments do you use?

We build diversified portfolios using a mix of investment vehicles, including individual stocks and bonds, mutual funds, and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), selected based on your specific needs. Our focus is on cost-efficiency, tax awareness, and quality, rather than chasing trends or making speculative bets.

How are you paid?

As a fee-only advisor, our sole compensation is the management fee our clients pay us. We are not paid by selling financial products or earning commissions, and we do not receive any third-party compensation for recommending investments. You can find more details about our fee schedule here.

What's the typical Pittenger & Anderson client profile?

Most P&A clients have at least $1 million in investable assets when we begin working together. If you’re close to that mark, or about to receive a sum from a retirement, business sale, or inheritance, we’re happy to have a conversation about whether we’re a fit for each other.

Where are client assets held?

We use an independent, third-party custodian to hold your investments. Charles Schwab is our preferred custodian, and most of our client assets call Schwab home. Schwab holds your cash and investments, executes the trades we place for your account, sends you a monthly statement, and provides 24/7 online access.

Will I face a big tax bill if I transfer my accounts to you?

Existing IRA accounts can transfer without any tax ramifications if they are done trustee-to-trustee or as a direct rollover completed within 60 days. After-tax investment accounts typically transfer in-kind, meaning if you own a stock with a large gain, it transfers over as-is. We will work with you to understand the tax posture of your existing accounts and your preferences before we begin the transfer process.
